Main Beach
Beach is one of the most romantic, momentous, and fun things you can do with your friends. Whether you’re looking for a long day at the beach or just an afternoon with your significant other, there’s a beach in Volusia County that will fit your needs. A few of the top beaches in Volusia County are: Daytona Beach, Flagler Beach, Ormond Beach and New Smyrna Beach. New Smyrna Beach
One of my favorite places in the world is New Smyrna Beach, FL. The sand is white and soft, the water is clear and refreshing, and the views are breathtaking. I love it for so many reasons! One of those reasons being because it’s where I got engaged to my best friend this past summer. There’s something about that place that makes me feel like a kid again, like I don’t have a care in the world. We drove from Orlando up through Daytona Beach stopping at all of our favorite beaches along the way (John’s Pass in Madeira Beach, Ponce Inlet on Daytona Beach). We ended up getting engaged on Crescent Beach and had dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in New Smyrna before heading back home.
Ponce Inlet
Home of the famous Ponce Inlet lighthouse, this beach is located on A1A south of Daytona Beach. It’s a great place to relax and watch the birds fly in and out of the coastal hammocks. The surf, sand, and water are all beautiful here and make for a very enjoyable visit. There is an observation tower at the end of the pier which offers excellent views. Many locals flock to this area because it offers some of the best fishing in Volusia County.
The pier also has many benches for those who want to rest their weary feet after a long walk on the beach. If you don’t have time for an entire day at the beach, plan your trip during one of these three events: Earth Day Festival, National Lighthouse Day Celebration, or Music by Moonlight.
Mary McLeod Bethune Beach
The beach in Daytona Beach has a lot of history behind it. The name, Mary McLeod Bethune Beach, honors the educator and civil rights activist from Florida who was influential in the founding of Bethune-Cookman University. This is one of the favorite beaches because you can feel here your spirit as soon as you walk onto the sand. There are volleyball nets, a restroom, and picnic tables available for visitors; plus there’s a playground for kids and a lifeguard on duty all day. While I was there I noticed that everyone was so friendly and happy– it felt like we were all on vacation together!
Cocoa Beach
For the perfect beach experience, head to Cocoa Beach. It’s on the east coast of Florida and offers a relaxing, laid-back vibe that you don’t get with other beaches. If you’re looking for a more active day, you can find that too with its many water sports offerings. With activities like surfing, jet skiing, parasailing, kayaking and fishing all close by, it’s sure not to disappoint. It also has one of the best fishing spots in Florida which is great for those who enjoy catching their own food. In addition to its water sports and fishing opportunities is its beautiful white sand – just what you need for an enjoyable day at the beach.
Dunlawton Beach
A long, wide beach with a variety of amenities and activities, Dunlawton Beach is a great place for vacationers who are looking for something to do. The beach offers plenty of parking, restrooms and concessions as well as volleyball courts, bathrooms, showers and picnic areas. This is also a popular surfing spot so you’ll have plenty of opportunities for epic waves.
