A lot of people have been wanting to visit Hawaii, whether they’re just trying to get away from their busy life at home or they want to vacation in one of the world’s most beautiful places. One such person was the cast of The Brady Bunch, who were filming an episode in Hawaii during their sixth season and couldn’t resist visiting the island while they were there, even though they spent their day on set all day long. Here are incredible places they visited while they were in the Aloha State!
1) Haleakala National Park
The Brady bunch didn’t just visit one place when they were on the island of Maui. They spent a lot of time driving up to Haleakala National Park, which is located at 10,000 feet. There are two trails you can hike and there are many different things to do once you reach the top. It’s also home to an astronomical observatory where visitors can see celestial objects through a telescope or binoculars. People visit for all sorts of reasons, but it’s always a good idea to come with water and snacks!
2) Iao Valley State Park
This trip is full of adventure. We will explore Iao Valley State Park. This is a great place to visit with kids! They can hike, ride bikes, and even do some fishing. There are also two waterfalls that you can climb up if you’re feeling adventurous! The park also offers many opportunities for wildlife viewing and picnicking, so there’s plenty to do at this destination. Plus, it’s close by so you won’t have to travel far from your hotel room.
3) Lahaina
One of the most famous Brady locations, Lahaina is a must visit when you’re in Maui. Full of history and culture, this small town has so much to offer. Not only can you visit museums and beautiful beaches, but also there are plenty of spots for delicious food and drink.
Hanging out at Lāwa’i Beach is an experience everyone should have when visiting Maui! Located on Mākaha Beach Road, just south of Lahaina Town, this beach offers incredible views that will fill your Instagram feed with amazing pictures that will make your friends jealous! Here you’ll find some incredible snorkeling opportunities with sea turtles, fish and coral reefs to explore.
4) Lanai
Lanai is an island that is located within Maui County. It spans a total distance of 30 miles, and is barely two miles wide. At the 2010 census, the population of Lanai City was 3,255. The island was once owned by James Dole and his sister’s husband, Henry J. Castle. Castle bought out his partner’s interest in 1906; this made him sole owner of all the Hawaiian Islands except for Oahu.
Back in 1922, Castle was slapped with a lawsuit after the owner of a sugar company who owned most of the land on Lanai on which he was interested in setting up his pineapple operation, claiming the area was in short supply of sugar cane.
5) Molokai
Molokai is a small island in the Pacific Ocean. The Brady’s visit Molokai after one of Jan’s paintings is purchased by a wealthy man on Maui. Once on Molokai, they meet an old friend of Mike’s from Korea and he invites them to his home for dinner. They are then led to a private beach club where they have their own bungalows and spend time together as a family. It is revealed that the Brady’s will never leave this place because it represents all that they love.
6) Maui
The Brady’s first stop was to see a surfing contest. They had to sleep on their surfboards because they were so late! They saw a beautiful sunset and some of their friends came to visit. One of their friends told them that he got hired as a surfboard maker and they left him his card. It was really neat how the Brady Bunch made new connections with people who had come from all over for just this one surfing competition!
The next day, they went on an excursion to see lava coming out of the mountain from an active volcano! They hiked up with lots of other people, but it was worth it when they saw the lava flowing down into pools at the base of the volcano.
7) Oahu
The Brady family vacationed on Oahu for two weeks and took a helicopter tour, snorkeled with sharks, and saw some of the most beautiful beaches. They also went to Hanauma Bay, which is famous for its turquoise water and coral reef. It’s said that it’s one of the best snorkeling spots in all of Hawaii. The Brady Bunch loved this spot so much they went there twice! Another awesome place they visited was the Polynesian Cultural Center, which had lots of cultural demonstrations and authentic entertainment from six different Pacific cultures including Tahiti, Samoa, Fiji, Tonga, New Zealand, and more. They even spent time at Diamond Head Crater National Memorial Park where you can see amazing views from atop an extinct volcano. Brady Bunch enjoyed exploring Honolulu’s Chinatown and seeing the iconic USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor where the Japanese bombed on December 7th 1941 during World War II.
8) Kauai
One of our favorite episodes of the Brady Bunch is when they go to Kauai. These are some of the best spots they visit on their trip: On their drive to Kauai, they passed by Waimea Canyon. This is one of America’s natural wonders and a great place to stop and stretch your legs after a long drive. They spent their first night at the Kokee Lodge, which is located at an altitude of 5000 feet on top of a mountain ridge overlooking lush and rugged rainforest. This lodge was built in 1919 and has been restored to its original state with modern touches, such as electricity and plumbing.
The next day, they went horseback riding on sand dunes that reach 4000 feet high!
