How long do celebrity relationships typically last? If you guessed less than a year, you were wrong (or at least not entirely correct). Some celebrity couples are able to make their marriage last, like Jessica Alba and Cash Warren, who’ve been married since 2008 and counting. However, there are many other famous couples who don’t have such lasting love – they get married, then quickly end up calling it quits. Here are celebrities who got married, only to have it end less than a year later…
1) Britney Spears and Jason Alexander
Britney Spears and Jason Alexander only lasted seven months before they broke up. This celebrity couple may have had their fair share of breakups in the past, but this time it was for real. Jason wasn’t the only one to blame either, as Britney’s management team claims she didn’t see him as marriage material. The problem with Britney’s previous marriages is that she might just be more interested in being famous than having a stable family life. For example, her second husband Kevin Federline seemed like he would be an appropriate match for her career aspirations because he already had some success as an R&B artist when they got married. That being said, after four years together, Britney filed for divorce from Kevin and called off the wedding six weeks before the date! It seems that she really wants to control how things happen in her relationships rather than make sacrifices or try something new.
2) Drew Barrymore and Tom Green
Tom Green, the comedian, was engaged to Drew Barrymore, the actress, for only seven months before they broke up. The couple met in 2000 when she starred on his MTV show The Tom Green Show. In 2003, she gave birth to their daughter Olive. Seven months after they got married in 2004, they called it quits. They reconciled briefly, but again broke up just days later. They first became friends with another through working together as co-hosts of Saturday Night Live. The couple had one son together and divorced in 2011.
3) Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman
In Carmen Electra’s book, Turning It Around: My Life Story, she says that after just one day of marriage, she knew it was all wrong. She said Rodman had an addiction to sex–and she broke up with him the next day. In 2005, Rodman told reporters he wanted to remarry her but that she won’t have me. She is married now, he said, and I am married to Kim. Dennis Rodman has been divorced twice in the past 15 years. Additionally, he has six children by four different women.
4) Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan
The 1990s were a time when Hollywood’s top stars were in love with each other. Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gwyneth Paltrow – these names are synonymous with the romantic dramas of the 1990s. They all had marriage on their minds and so they set out to marry each other until something changed between them. After four years of dating, Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan finally got married in 1991. Sadly enough, they broke up less than a year later after Ryan allegedly found out that her husband was having an affair with actress Isabella Rossellini.
5) Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney
Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney were both huge country music stars when they met in 2005. They dated for three years before getting engaged in 2008, but they broke up only seven months later. In 2010, the two released a duet together to try to make amends, but it didn’t work.
Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney tried to rekindle the flame by attending each other’s concerts, but that too failed. In 2013, Renee told Oprah Winfrey about their relationship on Oprah’s Next Chapter where she revealed: It’s my first breakup.
6) Britney Spears and Jason Trawick
In December 2011, Britney Spears and her fiancé Jason Trawick announced that they had called off their engagement. The couple got engaged in January 2011 after four years of dating. They broke up less than a year later, not even lasting until their planned wedding date. Fans were left wondering what happened between the two Hollywood stars. There has been speculation of whether or not Spears was pressured by her family to break off the engagement because she is the mother of two young children but no one really knows for sure. What we do know is that it’s hard enough to balance marriage with being a parent, let alone having to do so while also trying to juggle an acting career and tour schedule like Britney Spears does on top of everything else.
7) Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian
Kris Humphries, who was once married to Kim Kardashian, is one of the many celebrities who made headlines with their quickie marriages. This marriage didn’t last long as they broke up less than a year later. In addition to Kris Humphries, there are many celebrity couples who have gotten married and then broke up before their first anniversary. For example, in 2013 Kim K’s sister Khloe Kardashian had her wedding at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa in California with NBA player James Harden. They were together for 6 months before announcing their break-up on Twitter.
8) Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson
Ryan Reynolds, actor and Scarlett Johansson, actress, got married on September 14th in 2008. The couple met on the set of The Nines in 2007. They have one daughter together named James. After two years of marriage they broke up on December 25th, 2010. They were granted a divorce on July 1st, 2011. On May 22nd, 2018, Scarlett Johansson filed for divorce from Romain Dauriac. As she explained, the cause of their split was irreconcilable differences.
