To an outsider, being famous can seem like it’s all glitz and glamour, with celebrities enjoying celebrity status doing whatever they want, whenever they want. However, that’s simply not the case. In fact, many celebrities have had incredibly difficult lives which have lead them to their current life as a celebrity. Here are celebrities whose crazy stories will make you feel like your life has been easy!

1) Paz de la Huerta

Boardwalk Empire made Paz de la Huerta famous. She was born in Queens, New York and has a very interesting backstory. She’s always been really wild and loved to party, but she says that she turned things around when she found out that she had a terminal brain tumor. She has become an advocate for brain cancer awareness and research.
Paz also spent time in jail for assault. She had been partying with two men, one of which was her ex-boyfriend Leo DiCaprio, when they got into an argument about another woman. Paz punched him and went after his friend too, but then she was arrested by the police who responded to the scene of their fight.

2) Mischa Barton

Mischa Barton is best known for her role in The O.C., but she also has a wild backstory. From being born to a Jewish family in Moscow, to growing up in New York, Barton’s early life was anything but normal. Eventually, Barton would move to California and pursue her acting career. She would go on to star in movies such as Notting Hill and The Sixth Sense, but it seemed like everything had come crashing down when she was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) just before her 30th birthday. This arrest would lead her on a downward spiral of legal issues and personal struggles that would eventually land her in rehab for depression and anxiety.

3) Joaquin Phoenix

Famous actor, director, producer, and musician from the US. His mother, Arlyn Sharon Dunetz, was a fashion designer and his father had to deal with substance abuse when Phoenix was young. He has a sister named Jodean. Phoenix went to college at Carnegie Mellon University before transferring to Drexel University where he majored in theater and dance. It wasn’t until he attended Carnegie Mellon that he started acting in school productions such as Hamlet and Cabaret. In 1990, he got his first major role in To Die For directed by Gus Van Sant.

4) Shia LaBeouf

Shia LaBeouf, actor and performance artist, has had a wild career to date. From his humble beginnings as a child star to his recent stint in a New York City museum live-streaming himself watching his own movies, Shia’s life has been full of twists and turns. In 2008 he starred in two films at the same time: both Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. His performance art was exhibited in Los Angeles with him saying I’m not famous anymore. He also launched ‘He Will Not Divide Us’, an anti-Trump protest which became notoriously shut down by Trump supporters on its first day.

5) Marilyn Manson

Marilyn Manson’s name is well known, but not many people know his backstory. Born in Ohio as Brian Warner, Manson started his music career by forming the band Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids with Daisy Berkowitz and Gidget Gein. This band would go on to influence a whole new genre of metal music called death rock. The lyrics of this genre were often drug-related and violent, something that Marilyn Manson would soon become known for.
Manson is one of those celebrities with an absolutely wild backstory!

6) Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan has a wild backstory that’s absolutely unheard of. She was born on July 2, 1986 in New York City, and raised by her mother Dina and father Michael to be an actress and a singer. Growing up she was friends with Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Kim Kardashian. At age 11 she landed her first acting role on The Parent Trap playing twins when she was just 12 years old. It came out when she was 16 that Lindsay had been working as a fashion model during this time period for both Macy’s and Chanel without her parents’ consent or knowledge. This scandal caused problems for Lohan because it led to her being dropped from many of her own modelling jobs.

7) Danny Trejo

Danny Trejo is a Hollywood actor who has starred in over 150 movies, including Machete and Spy Kids. Born and raised in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles, California. His father abandoned him and his mother when he was still a child. His mother had to work three jobs to provide for him and his siblings. Although he had a rough upbringing, Danny’s childhood wasn’t all bad as he grew up with a strong sense of family and community that influenced his style of parenting as an adult.
He tried his hand at boxing but was unsuccessful in this venture; it didn’t take long before he turned to drugs instead. In 1969, at age 18, Danny Trejo found himself incarcerated on charges of assault with intent to commit murder after stabbing someone during an argument.
